question about spaying bunny

burningwings Nov 26, 2004 10:30 PM

i just got a female rabbit. she is between 4-5 years old and intact. i am debating whether or not i should get her spayed. does spaying them at this age reduce risks of cancer or is it too late? would her age make her a higher anethesia risk? any info would be greatly appreciated.

Spaying her would be a great idea right now. She probably already has some uterine problems, such as pyometra, since she's older and still intact. Spaying should be done around 6 months of age.

She is still young. If she is in good health, there is no reason why she wouldn't be a candidate for surgery. I spayed my rescued girl, BunBun, at age 9. She pulled through the procedure without a problem.
