Rabbits in fire

Tabby Feb 04, 2005 12:16 PM

I have three rabbits and they were in a fire recently. I was wondering if it would be o.k. if I give them a bath. Our male rabbit, shadow has some blistering on the inside of his ears, is their anything I can do? Brownie our other male rabbit is just burnt, I think. And Whitey our female rabbit is the worst. But it seems that only their fur got burnt not their skin. So is there anything I can do?

So sorry your bunnies were in a fire, geesh what the heck happened?

Anyway as far as you asking about giving them a bath, I would not.

Bunnies don't like baths much anyway but I personally would not stress them out anymore than what they have already been through with a fire.

I would deal with the bunny that has burns or blisters in the ears. Maybe use some neosporin / or triple antibiotic oinment on the blisters, so they do not get infected. Plus they must hurt

If they are really badly burnt, call your Vet and have them treated.

Let us know how they make out, such a shame.

I am so sorry for you and your bunnies. The area I live in has at least one major wildfire every summer. We ususally get a few critters in the hospital I work at as a result. I would keep a close eye on the blistered are and keep it covered with neosporin. If an infection develops you will need to go to a vet. It is also important to make sure they stay well hydrated, they can loose a lot of moisture through the wounds.

Good luck and keep us posted.
