In the midst of all the stress with Cleo I never got around to showing off my new boy, Nibbler. I got him from the local pound. He was pretty badly beaten up. Seems they had gotten in a group of 4 bunnies the week before they got him. One baby, one adult femal and 2 adult males. The baby got adopted and the 3 adults were left in one cage. When Nibbler arrived they put him in with the others who beat him up. He is pretty much healed up now and will be neutered of Tuesday.

I hate the people who run animal control. I called in the morning asking if they had any rabbits. The woman on the phone said yes, but there time was almost up. When I asked what she meant she said they were gonna be put to sleep later that day. I asked how many they had and she said four. I knew I could take two at the most but I have a friend who would have taken the others. I asked if she could keep them until I got off work and she said no. I asked if she could hold off on putting them down at least a couple of hours. Once again, no. I got off the phone and explained to one of the doctors what was going on. He said to go and get them right then. I called a.c. again to tell them I was on my way. The woman on the phone said "when you get here there will be one". I asked what she meant and she said the others weren;'t being adopted out because they were fighting. I toldher they were fighting because they had intact males and females in one cage. I can't believe they kept them down there for a couple of weeks at least but wouldn't hold on to them a couple of hours more. Sometimes I think they like to kill things.

Anyway, here is the one I did manage to save

What a beautiful boy....he looks like a twin of Maggie. How old is he?

I cannot believe that the Humane Society would not hold an animal for a couple of hours. I have not had much experience with our local humane society (45 minute drive)- we adopted Maggie (the shelter manager who is a vet was very excited as Maggie had been there for awhile) and once in awhile I drop off toys for the cats & dogs.

Good luck with your new bunny - he sounds like a lucky boy!

Thanks! Not really sure how old he is. Guessing around a year.

Our Humane Society is pretty good. It is animal control (the pound) that is the problem. They aren't really connected other than that HS volunteers visit the pound and pull animals out to foster. People are trying to get changes made. We've been going to board meeting etc. a few times amonth. Right now the sheriff's dept. is trying to take over animal control. (instead of the agricultural department.)

The one complaint I do have about the Humane Society here is that they really make now effort when it comes to animals besides dogs and cats. Once in awhile they'll post a picture on petfinder but you'd think they could foster a few rabbits, rats etc. I can't wait until I can buy a home so I can get more involved.
