trying to find the perfect bunny !!

DustBunny Apr 21, 2006 06:32 PM

Hey!

I posted before about getting a new bunny this summer...getting so excited!

I am, however, having trouble deciding what kind I want! I want something small, but I also want it to be friendly.

At first I was thinking of a holland because their small and from what I read usually have good temperments. But then I started looking at neverland dwarfs and their even smaller, and so cute! The only thing though is that I read that they can be mean. How common is this?

My boyfriend thinks I should get a jersey wooly because we read that their friendly, and he likes the crazy fur.

Is there any kind out of those three that would be better then the others? Is it more likely that one breed would like to be held more then the others?

Sorry for all the questions...I have been doing TONS of research and I know how to care for rabbits, I had my last one for 14 years. He was a mixed breed tho and very large. I've never had experience with the small breeds.

I have one more quick question - does anyone have a list or something of recomended rabbit vets, preferably in NJ or NY around NYC?? I just want to start looking around so that I can also get my new bun spayed/neuhtered ASAP.

Thanks so much!

Hi Dustbunny, love the name. The Jersy woolies are adorable , ahh just gorgeous as many little bunnies are. Take into consideration how big of a cage you have and what size bunny you can manage BEST.

Then go pick out a CUTE, friendly bunny and give em plenty of hugs and Kisses, and delicious bunny treats and ENJOY , hehehehehee

Let us know what ya decide on,

Hi, I'm just telling you from my experiences, I don't think the breed matters, every bunny has their own personality. I wrote about my biting bunny, Sadie, she is a Holland Lop. I just got a Netherland Dwarf 2 weeks ago, she is adorable, she has ruby eyes, I thought that might freak me out, but they are actually pretty. She's nice now, but who knows when she becomes a teenager and the hormones start kicking in. I do have to say that I've never had a mean male bunny

I do actually want to try to get a male, if for no other reason then because it's soooo much cheaper to get them neutered at my vets then it would be for a female. If I fall in love with a female though, I'll still get her.

have you thought about getting one from a shelter? They will already be altered, you just have to pay a small adoption fee, and you're helping a homeless bunny. I do understand though if you want a particular breed you'll want to go to a breeder, but you still might be able to find one there too.

Yeah I'm definatly going to look at shealters! I've seen some really nice rabbits either in shealters or foster homes before...I wish I could adopt them all!
