I placed one of my males with a female in an attempt to breed them. Due to that I have witnessed the oddest thing I have ever seen in all my time of keeping rabbits, They wont breed. In a week the male only tried once. He isn't harassing the female or anything. If anything they are enjoying each other's company by snuggling and playing together.
Is age an issue for males? My male maybe 3 years old, and the female around 2 1/2. They're both healthy. I understand breeding any female at a elderly age is a BAD IDEA, But do males...loose the stuff?
The male's attempt was last night after I lightly tapped him on his booty for being bad. (He had knocked one of the water bottles down again.) So is there a way to (of all things.) induce a male into wanting to breed? (The sight of it baffles me...but then again I am new to breeding.)
I use to always keep my four rabbits outside in separate cages. I sometimes had bunnies that liked the indoors and were easy to litter train, only twice though. Little over a week ago I noticed one of my female's cage had a hole in it, thus immediately brought her indoors. I was planing on brining a female in for a week or longer. (Just to breed her and allow her to raise the litter indoors.) So it was no biggie to bring her min.
The reason for indoor breeding...three unsucsessfull litters. (Only one having to do with this certain female.) I believed it all had to to with the outdoor cage problems.
