water bottle or bowl?

Tina12721 May 18, 2003 10:13 PM

I have a small water bottle hung in the cage now for the girls but I was wondering if a bowl would be better for them. They have been eating pretty much constantly between running on the wheel, playing and sleeping but I havent seen them touch the water yet. I have it close to the food and have shown them several times what it is so they do know its water but I was worried maybe they dont know how to use it. What do you all use?-bottle or bowl? I just now marked the bottle where the water line is so maybe I will be able to tell if they are drinking, they are so small thou I dont know if I will be able to or not.

Never use a bowl for water, it easily becomes dirty and if bedding accidentally gets into it it will wet the whole cage. Bowls are especially not a good idea around baby hamsters since they can drown in a very small amount. I'm sure your hamster do know how to use it, you've probably just not seen them yet, if you're worried about it then provides some moist food like cucumber.

Waterbottle! Definetely...not only is it way more sanitary but there's no worrying bout the hammies tipping it over or getting food or bedding in it.
