Teddy Bear Hamster - Large Behind

kellinjar Jul 06, 2003 02:28 PM

I noticed our teddy bear hamster sleeping otday and it seems to hav e a large protuding bum... any ideas what this is? It doesn't seem to be exhibiting any odd behaviour..eating.. running.. etc...
mostly nocturnal so I don't get to observe it a whole lot.
We've had it ofr about 1 1/2 months now.

Here are some images of the hamsters behind.. image003 is the best view of it I suppose since he won't let us hold him.
(if the photo link doesn't work try going to photos.yahoo.com/kellinjar and then the lizards album)

Hi there! Can't see the photo, but do you know if it's male or female? Males generally have that large protruding area, which I believe is part of its reproductive system. I've seen a lot of male Black Bear Hamsters at petstores with those areas overgrown because of sexual maturity and lack of females.

Unknown if its a male or female, never asked at the petstore for a specific gender, the gf just picked out one she thought was cute.
you shuold be able to goto photos.yahoo.com/kellinjar and click the lizard album to see the pic, there is one that gives a decent shot of what i'm talking about
But basically what you're saying is that he could be like that dog in van wilder?

Judging from the pictures its a perfectly normal Syrian bottom. I've seen more than a few in my time and mostly they look like that.

I have a new hamster addition today this is kevin my little darling my niece picked her out she's not allowed a hamster at home so I told her she could have one here. Whats one more when you already have over 30. Kevins a little barmy and by far the most entertaining hamster I've ever had here and down right demands attention.
