Help!! My female roborovski hamster doesn't want to mate!

sweet_amy83 Jul 17, 2003 04:57 AM

The purpose I bought one pair of male and female roborovski hamster is to breed them. However, I observed that whenever the male tries to cling to the female's back, she paws him away and start a fight! I got to know somewhere in an article that the female size should be larger than the male in order to mate. Is it true? My male size is slightly larger than the female. Pls tell me what to do!

she might just not be ready, but if your caging them together then it will happen just keep an eye on the fighting if one draws blood seperate them. I'm not sure how often the females are receptive but im sure its like the syrians which is every 4 or 5 days and untill they are in heat they dont want to know just be patient.

I also think that she's not ready yet. The female is 2 months old while the male is 4 months old. I'm just afraid that the male is starting to get bored of the female reaction towards his attempt to mate. At first, he was pretty excited about it, but now he just cuddled alone at the corner of the cage and sleeps a lot although it's night time. The pair used to sleep side by side together. I'm really worried that he has got a problem.
