should albinos be neutered?

pixibubbles Sep 05, 2003 06:16 PM

as u might have seen earlier in the week i found an albino syrian in my garden, we've named him hercules coz he seems to like adventures and is really strong even by hamster standards, his favourite trick seems to be knocking my videos of the shelf,

Anyway when i took him to the vets to check he didnt suffer from his adventures in my garden and eating my tomato plants i was told albinos are albinos coz they are missing a gene sequence in their DNA and that if bred the babies can be born without eyes and teeth.

At my student home in coventry i have a year old female syrian named lulu, i dont intend to breed herc and lu, i kinda let my hamsters decide lol, she didnt chose to breed with teddy, my last male hammie, but if she does am i gonna have the problems the vet told me about? he said bearig in mind lulu i should have herc neutered, does that sound right to anyone? Only hes tiny, and putting somethign so small thro such a big operation seems pointlessly dangerous. is this just the local vet trying to get money outta me? only he's always been really good...

id appreciate any and all feedback on this coz im really confused
thanks

There is absolutly nothing wrong witn breeding a albino hamster and I certainly wouldn't put it through the stress of being neutered, hamsters are too small for such things and most die.
