Why is he doing this???

My teddy bear hamster lives in a Critter Trail One cage. And since this isn't a very large cage, I decided to try and make more room inside of it by purchasing one of those exercise wheels that attach to the outside. I do like it, because it is absolutely silent (unlike the one that comes with the cage...and claims to make no noise), but I don't think it's doing Booter (the hamster) any good. He seems to only want to sleep in it. He gathers up all of these shavings and food and transports them to the wheel. He's not getting any exercise. Is it normal for him to want to sleep there? I even got him one of those "lazy lookout" towers, and he slept in it for a few days, but then went right back to the wheel. I really don't want to put the old wheel back. Any suggestions?

I had hamsters that would sleep in their wheel when it was in their cage or under it or anywhere comfortable. I'm sure it's nothing but maybe just add the other wheel back in. Hamsters are pretty silly that way I guess we can't really know why they do what they do but he probably thought it was comfy and decided to make it his new home. NO worries
