BABIES?!?!?!???!!!!!!

misswindom Mar 10, 2004 05:29 PM

I got home this afternoon to find out that one of the hamsters I bought a couple of weekends ago gave birth to 4 BABIES!!!

What do I do??? I just wanted pets - not babies!! ACK!

Ok first off, calm down. All caps and exclamation points flying every which way is a bit much.

Secondly, what sex of hamsters did you get? As we both know, a boy and a girl eventually results in babies.

It may not have even been your fault. I've had accidents from pet store errors, nothing like buying a female guinea pig and 2 months later she drops out two cute babies. Apparently they had a not-so-developed male running around in the female bin.

If you don't want them, you can get rid of the babies in a humane fashion. Or you can raise them up and sell them off before they are able to re-breed back to the mother. Or you can keep them and start a collection.

Things don't always go according to plan. If you only wanted pets, I would definately try to re-sex your original hamster(s) and see if you have a pair. If not, then she most likely got pregnant at the pet store. Regardless, you've got babies now so there's nothing to worry about. She should take care of them on her own.

lol i'm calmed down..... I only got the hamsters 2 weekends ago.. from what I read, their pregnancy lasts longer than that, doesn't it?

Anyway.. I went back to the pet store (I go to the place like every other day.......), and I told the guy what happened. He said that after she weans them, he'll buy them from us.

hehe I was also telling some of my students about them, and a few said they wanted one, so.................

I'm just still in shock lol

BTW - it was this one who had the babies...

LOL And, sorry, I have to point this out just because people do this all the time....

I like the idea that people think I have so much Wisdom, but my last name's WiNdom...

I've also been called Wendy (Windom Dusty), Windham, Wyndham (why not just take the easy spelling??? I can't convince anyone of that!) AND of course my students have another name for me, but I can't repeat it (it's a wirty dord)...
