Question???? I am adopting a couple of hamsters from an animal sheltor....

Hayblinkin Apr 27, 2004 08:54 PM

for my classroom. I hear that males are better, but i really like females. I want to take 3 of either male or female. What do you guys recommend all males or all females(I don't want to breed)? Also can males be put together or will they fight. the way they are at the sheltor is that there are 7 males in one cage and 8 females in another. What do you guys think???

persoanlly i find females to be cleaner.

and umm... males often have a tendancy to play with themselves... which the kids could probs get very rude about. the females i have had also seem to be far more out going then their male counterparts.

make sure that if they are living in the same cage u buy dwarf, as syrian hamsters over the age of a few months will fight and even kill each other when kept together.

Good Luck with the hams!

Males or females of any type of hamster are fine. You don't say what type of hamsters these are. If they're Syrians then they cannot be caged together or else they'll fight and maybe kill each other. Dwarfs can live in single sex groups.
