hello,
well i think that three if not all four of them are boys. but again i really cant tell, so i will check in a week or so to see if it is any more visible. now three of the babies are the medium-brown kind with the dark strip down its back... the other lil' dude is more of a golden, probably cream colored, with a very much lighter, slightly gray strip down his back. now hes obviously always been the outcast because of his color, and his hair has always been a little more wild than the other three. lately though it has been looking greasy or "wet" it starts kind of at the end of his head, or top of the neck, to his mid or lower back. ive heard that they can have oil spots, but im just so afraid that he may have something wrong with him. i dont think hes been sleeping more. he still is eating and from what i know still drinking. of course the first thing that comes to my mind is wet tail, but besides the "wet" coat he doesnt have any other symptoms. i have done many of the stressful things that could cause this, for example they are weening off the milk, they have been taken away from there mom, they have switched environments, and i may have too much of there old bedding in there so the cage may be too dirty( im going to clean it now) i am soo paraniod because i love them and could not handle losing them to one little mistake. im hoping its just an oil mark, but im very tempted to call the vet just so i feel better. any advice would be great. thanks

running away, heheheheh !

As far as his coat, geesh without seeing it I really can't answer. If it looks greasy , than maybe it just is an oily spot.

I would do exactly like you say, clean up the tank, thats important.

Wet tail is a very wet bottom usually, (diareaha) and yes they can develope it from stress, or unclean cages.
But they usually become very lethargic, and sit all hunched up (sick looking)

** IF he did have it, or would start showing signs SEPERATE him, because it is very contagious.

If hes acting fine hes probably okay! Sure hope so.

But your right, when in doubt with any animal, call your vet, even if ya just ask over the phone what they think!

Thanks for the update, ehheheh I feel like I know these guys,

Talk again soon.

Kiss all their furry heads , and do your best!

howdy,
well i really really doubt that he does have it, but i dont want to be jinxing anything. but hes as hyper as the rest of them,i havent seen any diareaha, and hes eating just as much as the other three. i was going t get some chinchilla sand to get for them because i read that if they are oily they can roll in that and get all nice and clean. i know they said not to get chinchilla dust because that causes resporitory problems. and all i would need to do is put in a bit in like a corner or somthing right. i dont have to make that the new bedding or anythng? i didnt realize the seriousness when they tell you they become eating machines, its crazy! i put in a wheel for them to play on, and they love it. the golden one (who we call albino) is a pro at it. they even sleep on it when they are not using it. now they are working off some of that fat they gained from eating SO MUCH!!! they are so cute, just like little fuzz balls. if i can get my scanner to work i would love to send some pictures, but i dont know when that will be. talk to you later.

Well girl, ya did it , you raised the Mommies kids for her!

Nice Job! Sounds like they are on their way to become
BIG hamsters themselves.

As far as the chinchilla sand, no I would not use that as a bedding. I think the little guy may start to clean his greasy fur himself soon. :0) Hope so. You can look more into that sand, I personally have not ever used it. And dont think I would for babies.

Its neat to hear they are playing on their wheel now, ohhhhhhhh do I remember the noisey wheels at night, hahahhaha
But they so love to run in them.

And the babys always look so cute, no matter what they do !

Well thanks for all the updates on the kids, as far as pics, I would love to see these guys, if ya get the chance and are able.

Like I said I have been talking with you since Mama was killed, feel like I know them, *SMILE*

Take care Stephanie, I'll be here for any updates, or any

hello,
well everyone is doing great! yes the wheel is driving me insane, but they are just so cute you cant help it. i tried today to sex them, i think i finally figured it out when i look at one down there and it was completely different from the others. im almost 100% positive that its three girls and one boy! because the little boys holes were very far apart, and everyone elses were a lot closer. and i noticed the buldge on the boy and not on the others. unfortunatly its coming to that dreadful time when i have to give them up. i know im keeeping two and the person who wants one decided she wanted two as well, but that might change now that they are all girls and one boy. i dont think she wants any babies to take care of. but of course i have no problem taking my time to find the last one a home. ill try hard to get the scanner working, but i dont know anything for sure. talk to you later.

AHHHH so glad they are healthy and having fun playing on their wheel. Thats really neat.

So ya have 3 little girls and a boy, good job, finally got em sexed. Hhehehehe ! Its great your keeping 2 maybe I will get to see them , in time since they will be staying.

Its always sad when they have to leave especailly the ordeal you all went through. But they hopefully will get good homes, and the fact your keeping the 2 helps ease the sad feeling !

Be waiting for a pic soon, Talk later,
