do hamsters retain sperm? i had a gruoup of 5 (what i thought to be baby hamsters) together, and found babies one morning. so i seperated that female into her own tank and she raised her 4 babies. there is one left that she didnt eat in there with her, its only a few weeks old, but eyes open and fully developed and all that. I dont know just how old it is, since i didnt keep track, but its about and inch long, about as wide as a grown mans finger. I dont think hes old enough to impregnate her? especailly considering he would had to ahve impregnated her long enough ago for a gestation period?

Last night my boyfriend came up to my work, and told me she had 3 more babies. lo and behold, she does.

as for the other questions. ANyone know of any good sites to identify hamsters? they are definatly some sort of dwarf, all have the same pattern, various shades of brown cream and white, white belly, dark brown line down the back, the shades of brown are mostly around the edges of the body, by the white stomach.

should i be taking the first baby away from the mom now? hes been going down by the other babies when she leaves them, but hes not hurting them, he appears to just be laying with them. my bf expeirimentally set him in with the other hampsters (3 boys and a girl) and said they didnt hurt him, but i dont know if thats really a good idea? I dont want to have more than two cages going of these hamsters, at least not yet! I had assumed i could leave mom and babies in one cage until the babies were a bit more grown up, plus i figured that would let me seperate moms a bit longer to not exhaust them from having babies, since ive seen what teneds to happens to rats who are constantly lactating.
