Pretty Gross

My daughter's dwarf hamster has an area on her side that is raised with a hole in the middle, filled with blood. The fur surrounding this area is gone. The hamster is still eating and drinking & running in her wheel like normal. She is alone in her cage, there's nothing in there she could have scraped against or anything. I clean the cages with water only. I took pictures of the hamster up to the local pet store and they said they'd never seen anything like this. They told me to clean it with hydrogen peroxide and apply neosporin daily for a week. I was already using the neosporin, so I cleaned the wound and re-applied the neosporin. The pet store told me if she doesn't improve within a week to take her to the vet. We bought the hamster at Meijer and bought 2 at that time. The other hamster died suddenly not even a month after we bought them. They were kept in separate cages but would sometimes play together. It's been about 2 months since the other hamster died. Does anyone here know what would cause this and if I'm doing the right treatment?

Sounds like a burst cyst or tumor. You really should take it to a vet now to have it checked out.

*Thank you!* I've never heard of that, don't know very much about hamsters anyways! It sounds like that could be it. I've been putting neosporin on it every day and it doesn't really look much better than what it did. Other than that "wound", she is normal. I will get her to the vet! Thanks again!
