I went out for a little while and came home to find one of my suggies' tail hopelessly knotted in his pouch-strap. I got the pouch from the breeder - it came with the second little guy.

Anyhoo.. I have no idea how he did it, but I had to cut the straps off and cut alot of fabric from his tail. When he finally managed to get out, his tail looks awful.

It looks horribly mangled with patches of fur missing and a couple severe kinks in it. The very tip of his tail is dark reddish/purple. I think a bone may be sticking out, but I'm not sure. There was no blood on his fur or around the pouch, and I'm pretty sure he has no feeling in the last inch or so of his tail - he wasn't screaming or struggling or moving it when I was cutting the fabric away.

He seems to be doing alright - he ate two treats whilst I was cutting him out and hopped around a bit to get some food and a drink. I've since put both of them in a different pouch.. He seems otherwise healthy except that he holds his tail stiff and can't move the tip where the kinks start.

Is there anything I can do until I can take him to a vet? I'm going to trim the fur off some more and take a closer look, but I know that it's definately broken. I really don't know what to do.. will the tip of his tail have to be amputated?
