Seeking personal experiences...

I have done my homework and my research.

I am an animal person/ animal lover. I have had experience with Cats, Dogs, Iguanas, Caimans, Fish, Turtles, Parakeets, Budigars and Macaws, all which were family pets growing up. I currently am on my own now and have 4 pet snakes.

I want a small mammal that can offer the affection of a cat or dog, but that is a more unique pet.

I am interested in getting a pair of sugar gliders.

I have an important question though.

What are some of the most difficult aspects any of you have had with sugar gliders?

Thank you very much for your time.

Hmmmm, the most difficult aspects would have to be that they are only awake during the night (nocturnal), they are very hyper and won't sleep on your lap or cuddle like a cat or dog will, they require a very strict diet or health problems will arrise, and their musky odor. The males have a musky odor but the females don't. If you got to females this wouldn't be a problem.

Other than that I love my gliders! Just like all animals, they have their good qualities and bad as well. I rescue reptiles and got a pair of sugar gliders a few months ago and am just in awe how cute they are. They run all over the place and love treats (silkworms, crickets, etc) but they won't sit still worth a darn! Unless they're munchin on something!

Good luck!

I drove 8 hours each way to get the newest members to my family.

A male 8wks OOP and a female 9wks OOP. After only a day it is clear that they have such different personalities.

I think I have everything I could possibly ask for, for these new guys. Time to think of names and begin the bonding process.

Anyone have any good advice that isn't a sugar glider book?

Once they become used to me I will post pics.

I have them in an 18"X30"x36" cage.

Thanks for any help...
