It all depends on where you live. Do some research online, there are some good sites (which I can't remember) that know the various state regulations. I know that for the most part, you don't need a license to own them just about anywhere.
You do, however, need a licence to sell their offspring, since they are endangered species.

Well if you keep your sugar glider in your house in a cage, just dont tell anybody you have one and no one will ever know. Just remember if you get caught, you can possibly be fined and I know your gliders will be taken from you and "humanely killed". It all depends on what state you live in though. Call your local State and Game Department and ask them if it is illegal to own sugargliders. If they say no, just keep it on the lowdown if you do decide to get one. Look on the internet and sometimes sites will have illegal states listed to have sugar gliders. Sugarglider.net I think has a legal glider page.
