Do Gliders smell?

presleyreptiles Jan 06, 2005 12:56 AM

I am new to Gliders. Today, I bought the cage, and supplies and everything, but now I am hearing that they smell really REALLY bad. Is it just males because they musk sometimes, and thats why they smell, or what?
Thanks,
Brandon

Hi,
Female sugargliders dont bother many people. Neutered male sugargliders don't smell bad. Un-neutered males can get pretty bad for some people. If you love your pet, you will look beyond this small issue. I don't suggest putting the cage in your bedroom though.

I have 4 gliders. Have bred for 7 years.... almost 8 now.
My gliders dont have any odors. They are the most odorless pet I have ever owned...
My babies let off a Garlic smell when scared. But that only happens while they are being held and only till they get used to you.
The only smell I get is when the door is closed overnight and when you open it the next day thier food makes the room smell. Not bad. Just .... organic like. Since they eat fruits and vegis...the whole room smells like fruits and vegis. lol
You may have to wash your gliders pouch from time to time cause the male WILL pee in the pouch to mark it and that CAN get to smelling. But as long as its washed like once a month it shouldnt ever be noticable unless you stick your nose right on it.
A proper diet should keep gliders from having any odors as well.
