Lonely Mouse?

littleangel77007 Jan 07, 2004 11:53 PM

This is a pre-emptive question, and thankfully I don't need the answer yet. But I was wondering, what happens when you keep a few mice together, and most of them pass away, leaving only one? I have three mice, and they constantly snuggle up together, especially when they sleep. I had to briefly separate one due to illness, and she practically went crazy by herself. So, is there anything you can do to make a single mouse's life more pleasant, short of getting more mice? I'm sure this is an issue I will eventually have to face (hopefully not soon!), and I was just wondering what the best course of action is. Thanks.

Mice are social creatures, esp female mice. A female who is used to living with her sisters that suddenly finds herself alone will be bored and depressed. No amount of attention you give her, unless she's with you twenty four hours a day, seven days a week, will make up for the company of another mouse.

If you run into that situation, and have only one female alone left, I would either get her a new female friend to keep her company, or else give her to someone else who has females, so that she won't be lonely.
