Hi could use some advice I dont know what to do now.......

starmom Jan 15, 2004 10:30 PM

we have a hamster "daisy" she was fine, ran on her wheel like crazy looked and acted healthy then last sunday we found her with her legs paralyzed and a hump in her back.

Daisy has hung in there, since sunday its now thursday nite ll:25pm.
we keep her tail end loosely wrapped in tissue and change it frequently as she has no bowel or bladder control. she is hungary so we are hand feeding her and holding the water bottle for her.

we really hoped that she would recover from the paralysis, for the last two days she keeps her eyes closed but wiggles her wiskers, and resonds to our voices and touch.

we have spent alot of time holding her and telling her that we love her and caring for her. she is not getting better......i hate the idea of taking her to the vet to die......is there something I could give her to "help her along" I dont want to see her suffer for many more days, I thought she would be gone days ago.....its been hard for all of us.......

I tried giving her some diluted nyquil hoping that would let her just go off to sleep but to no avail........

its just soooooooooo sad............

would appreciate some advice......
sincerely;
sue

I know we have already talked about this, but there is really nothing humane available without going to the vet. Please do not try to do something on your own.

The only really humane thing to do would be taking her to the vet to be euthanized. You can ask to be there with them when they put her to sleep, I don't think they would mind. It doesn't cost much to put such a small animal to sleep. When I had a mouse put down after she was injured in a wheel accident, it cost me about $5.

The only real way you can do it at home is to make your own C02 tank which will find up costing you more than just taking her to the vet.
