Spiny mouse Chewed off her tail...

kittenofulthar Apr 10, 2004 01:48 PM

I have 2 female spiny mice. samara and kinkogi. Ive had them for about 3 weeks now in a 10 gallon tank, with a solid wheel, and things to climb on. kinkogi, the smallest of the two, has always been the jittery type, but late last night i saw her biting her tail. i didnt know what to do, so i waited till the next day to find out, but by then she had chewed clean thru the middle of her tail. I cleaned her stub-tail under cool water and swabbed it with some animal type neosporin, but i need to know what might have caused this. i read that lack of meat can cause tail biting, but i never heard of it to this degree. i feed them cat food and the occasional dog buiscut as well as thier regular mouse food of seeds, lab blocks etc.

... help?

Oh and i have now seperated her from samara to avoid any problems. especially now that samara seems to be shunning kinkogi.
