What in the world has happened here? Betty is just finished weaning her babies, and i came in today to find that she had given birth to another litter of babies! Can female mice produce multiple litters from just one mating?

Thanks,
Andrew

Is the male still in with her? IF the male was in with her while she was giving birth to the first litter even for a few minutes, he would have had time to breed her.

No, the male hasnt been in with her since she gave birth to the first 3 that she just finished weaning. I dont understand this. She either retained some of the males sperm, which is the more likely factor, or she produced them through parthenogenesis, which I highly doubt, since that form of reproduction is know to be exclusive to certain insects.

Mice can get pregnant within the first 24hrs of giving birth. SO if the male was with the female when she gave birth to her litter of babies and while she was nursing, then she was made pregnant by him directly.

That must be it then. When I found her with the babies the male was with her. *Smacks self on head*

Thanks for the help,
Andrew
