Mice ( water bottle )

equestrian129 Jun 04, 2005 09:32 PM

Recently I bought a baby mouse, named Peek-a-Boo by the way. She is so so so cute! But she wasn't drinking out of her water bottle.
I thought it was to high, so I moved it down some. She still didn't drink. I put a jar cap in there of water, she did drink out of it sometimes, but not very often. I am getting very worried, because I read that they dehydrate easily. When I had went to the pet store to buy her, the man who worked there said that the water bottle he recomended was sold out, so he gave me another one. I was going to go back to see if it is there. But you see, the one I have now is formed like a tube at the end, and the ones I see in most cages is round at the end where they can suck. So do you have any advise for me?

a standard sipper bottle for rodents is basically a tobe with a marble which blocks the water from coming out, but when pushed by a tongue, it lets water out.

You can try leaving a small dish of water as well, to ensure she is drinking. You can also tap the end of the water bottle in sight of the mouse, she may get the ideal.

The only real concern I have is if she is not fully weaned. Many petstores start selling their mice before they are properly weaned, mostly at about 3-4 weeks old. They should not be separated from their mother till at least 4 weeks old. 5 weeks is better. (5 weeks is when males and females should be separated as well)

Thanks alot. But I went to PetCo and bought one of those bottles you were talking about. She is drinking normally now.
When I went to the pet store I did tell the man I wanted a baby, so I could raise it. I don't know how old she is. But she has been doing fine

Thanks again.
