Mice not breeding? : (

kilhd Aug 08, 2005 01:02 AM

Hello.. second question on forums. I have 5 mouse cages.
Cage 1: 3 females (white "feeders"
Cage 2: 3 males (grew up together, no fighting) (white "feeders"
Cage 3: 1 fawn male & 1 blue female
Cage 4: 1 white male (tan belly) & 1 white female
Cage 5: 4 mice - 1 white male, 2 black females, and 1 brindle female.

Ok.. now I have tried setting a male up in a 6th cage and put 2 or 3 females in and NOTHING!! and also nothing from the two "couples" I have. I was really really hoping the fawn and blue mice would breed but nothing! When I was a kid I remember starting with a couple and within a month had tons of mice and now I am trying to get some babies but nothings happening. Any suggestions on what to try to get some mice breeding going on? Thanks for any info.

Mice could be too old or too young to breed. Temperatures may be too high or two low (should be around 70-75F).

Thanks for the reply... I guess I should have mentioned more info about the mice. The room they are in stays about 75-76F in the daytime hours and roughly 72-73F in night hours. The two "couples" of mice I have are old enough for sure to breed.

Here is a link to a pic of the white male in one of the pairs.(the female was hiding hehe)

And here is a bad pic of the fawn male (for age/size compair to a quarter)

Both of the females were hiding for the pics but they are all four about the same size. : )

Deffinitely a nice looking male. Never seen one with such reddish fur. How old are the mice? If they are too old they don't breed very well. Also, can't remember if you said how long you had them. Sometimes it may take a month or two before the first batch of babies is born, as the nice get familier with eachother. The temps are good.

A good high protien, high fat rodent lab chow is good to use, as well as a seed mixture is good to offer to mice.
