Pregnant Mice????!!!

hardingurl Nov 15, 2006 10:03 AM

I was just wondering-- I got 2 female mice about 2 months ago. Then just a few days ago I got a male mouse. I want them to get pregnant- is there anyway I can speed up this process? And if they already are pregnant- How do I know??

If you had your female mice for two months, they are definitely not already pregnant. Mouse gestation is about 19-22 days. When you introduce the male, you can expect babies in about 20-30 days, depending on when conception actually occurs. The age of the females will also play a factor. If they were purchased as 'babies' they probably are about 3 months old (mice wean at about 4-5 weeks of age and depending where you bought them, they could be 4-6 weeks old when you bought them). If they were bought as adults, harder to say their actual age. Adults can be 3-4 months old to over a year old or more. Adult mice over 18 months don't tend to breed well, especially if they never had babies before. If they are retired breeders, you are not likely to get litters from them or very big litters, depending on how heavily they have been bred.
