A little bit of vanilla to the water helps reduce the potency of male mice urine. Many people have used it and noticed a significant difference in the smell. I Have used it a few times but never really noticed a difference. I think it really varies myself. However one drawback with using vanilla extract is it can block some water systems. Most sipper bottles don't have a problem if washed regularly. The rack system for large collections of mice watering systems (typically used by those who breed mice/rats as feeders, instead of pets) can clog up.
