my lonely mouse...

frostypaws Feb 04, 2007 08:22 PM

I have (had) 2 mice, Jeepers and Creepers. Had em both since the summer, kept one cause my snake didn't eat it and decided to get her a companion. They hated each other the first couple days, then they loved each other, always slept and played together. Well a week ago, my first mouse was found dead...and partially eaten. I feel incredibly terrible about this, and I don't know if she was dead before or after the other one had eaten her. Someone told me that female mice will kill each other once they reach a certain age, not sure if this is true, sounds like maybe its not but can't find any reason as to why she was partially eaten.

I have a lone mouse now and I want to get another one because I know they like other mice...should I go ahead and get another playmate for her? Any advice or info would be appreciated.

I'd get her a new friend, but try to get one that's about the same size/age is you can. More so on size...
If not you could always feed it to your snake or keep it as a pet...

I would get her another friend.. I've had mice off and on for almost 9 years and bred them for about for nearly 6 and my females usually get along.. as for the cannibalism its not rare for them to feed on a deceased cage member but its doubtful that she killed her... did you get them from a pet store? if so her cage mate could have been well into adulthood or nearing it when you got her, and mice don't live very many years.. Good luck, Madison

Get a young female. Adult mice, especially females, tend to be more accepting of a young mouse than they would be of another adult. Just be sure and watch them closely, and if blood is drawn separate them.
