I broke my rules

PHRatz Feb 26, 2007 10:10 AM

I broke my rules of quarantine. The vet has already checked my babies, they are not sick. That sneezing cleared up so we're thinking the typical sneezies when they first move to a new home. Or possibly a virus but it ran it's course after a week or so whatever it was they aren't sick with anything that needs medication.
Natalie is not sick, her health problems that aren't extremely serious yet are caused by old age, not contagious disease.
Before Bea passed away I had already taken her away to a hospital cage so I had already parked the baby cage next to Natalie so they could see each other at night.

Natalie was was so lonely I couldn't stand it.
Besides before she's gone I want her to teach the babies how to behave so I scrubbed everything down yesterday & I put the babies in with Natalie.
At first she looked at me like hey I don't like this get them out!
I put her in front of her box so that she could go in it & take her nap undisturbed, she did do that.
I watched for hours & saw that Natalie didn't try to do anything to them and they are not at all afraid of her.
I checked on them several times in the night, the babies were having a ball playing on the wheels & tumbling with each other.
This morning I went in to give them the morning veggie plate.
They were all in Natalie's bedroom box with her sleeping.
It worked out, I am so happy it did!
I really don't think Natalie is going to live much longer.. she's the last of the old group & she's slowing down.
At least she won't grieve to death though.

I am so happy to hear that the introduction went smoothly. I am glad that everyone is getting along and that Natalie wont have to be alone. This is one time where I think it is a good thing that you made an exception to your rules.

I did wait a full three weeks so that goes beyond the recommended two weeks that some people use. At least I did that :::bg:::
I do not want to sit here watching Natalie grieve & since the babies have been vet checked & cleared I just had to do it for her.
This morning again they were all sleeping together so she's accepted them or else she would've kicked them out of her bedroom box.

I'm so glad that they have continued to get along. How does she seem to be liking the new younger company?

Natalie has perked up quite a bit since the first day. Last night I was watching as they used me for a jungle gym, Tanya especially seems to like Natalie a lot. She's hanging all over Natalie and Tanya has calmed way down around me.. so I'm thinking that however they communucate with each other, Natalie has already taught her a thing or two.
Natalie looked very happy last night compared to the first night they were together. First night she wanted me to take them away but I'm thinking maybe she's realized she's in charge now & those children have to pay attention to her commands so she's happy.
