Sniffling Rat

kd7kxw Mar 04, 2007 02:47 AM

Ruby has started sneezing and sniffling I tried running a humidifier but no effect I was wondering if I should sepparate her and Tanya till I can get her to the vet on monday they get really upset if you keep them apart for very long and I'm guessing if whatever is contagious Tanya already has it

I have done more research and decided this looks just like everything described for SDA Since Ruby and Tanya Came from the same litter within days of each other so I assume they have both been exposed and I wouldn't help to separate them hopfullythis all run its course and the are fine.

Right if one has it the other one does too so no point in stressing them out further by making them stay apart.

I'd still see a vet because even though SDA is a virus rats tend to potentially carry several different respiratory diseases, some are bacterial & the viral infection can cause weakened resistence to the bacterial ones.
Even though antibiotics will not treat a virus, taking them while the virus is active can prevent further problems from the bacterial diseases. You don't want a secondary infection to flare up.
I hope I am explaining that in a plain way.. I was trying to.

Well you know.. we all want a report when you get back.

I would bet if it's contagious it's already been passed. It may or may not affect the other girl, so I'd just leave them together to minimize stress on them both.
