Help with names?

Angel_n_Disguise Mar 05, 2007 10:59 PM

I am thrilled to have found a active rat board. I am the proud slave to 5 male rats and 5 female rats. A couple days ago I bought home 4 baby rats and I need helping picking out names for them. They are black and white but they have different markings. Two of them are females and two of them are males. Any ideas on names?

They are all staring at me right now because I use my computer room for any newbies that come into my home. They are so adorable. I love the popcorn stage! I almost forgot what it was like to have babies around. My other rats are lazy.

I'm sure someone can help with the corny names that seem to be the trend here =)

I love that popcorn stage!!!
I have a link somewhere lemme see if I can find it: ack no I can't find one the one I have is no longer available.
If you were to google pet names I'll bet you'd find all sorts of lists to help you pick a name.

Personally I have always named my rats after famous people or characters.
This last group got a bunch of country & western names because they came from Lubbock TX which is a huge country cowboy town.

The names I've used are memorable I think because 5-6 years ago a vet's assistant worked for the vet I used to use, now he works for the vet I use today. When I took the new babies in recently he started ratttling off names of my late rats.. he remembered so many of them.
Mario Andranttie must have been his favorite because he sure remembered that one. LOL
He remembered Lucy & Rikki Ratcardo too.

With my other pets I named them based on circumstances.. For example Charity my turtle is a charity case. Janie the turtle came extremely close to meeting with calamity. Scooter the mud turtle scoots along the bottom of the tank rather than swim...

That's your thing, nothing wrong with it, I just find it amusing =)

I've also noticed others here using the same format.

I tend to use first names, often from favorite tv shows. Most of my rats currently are named after Buffy the Vampire Slayer characters.

A couple older ones are named after people from "Big Brother Australia" from last summer. It was my first litter of rats that I raised myself and they were born the same day the show started.

The office manager at my vet's office at first didn't get it.
She could never pronounce or spell one of my rat's names.. I finally looked at her one day & said it's a joke!
That's the whole point they all have names that are a JOKE!!
ROFL!!

Finally, it sunk in for her. LOL

I've used names from people on favorite TV shows before too.
I had Arthur Fancyrat & Andy Sipowrats.. I was a big NYPD Blue fan. I had ALL the Cartrats at one time, Ben, Adam, Hoss, Little Joe & even the cook Hop Sing a black hooded who had a perfect stripe down his back.
I had an odd-eyed named Scarlett O'Rata once, I had a stripper.. Gypsy Rat Lee & a boxer Sugar Rat Leonard. I had a stunt man once, Dar Rattinson.

The dog we have now is Stevie Ray Klingvaughan because he came from Austin TX, he was extremely clingy as a baby & still is somewhat that way.. and we are major fans of the late Stevie Ray Vaughan who's rise to fame began in Austin, TX.

btw when it comes to corny.. I'm not insulted by that.. it's obvious, I love corny LOL!

CongRATs on your new babies. The popcorn stage is just too cute. I am not very good with picking names for other people's rats. With mine I tend to use famous celebrity names or a name just pops into my head because I realize it fits their personality. Come back and tell us what names you have decided on and I would love to see pics.

You can get pet names from anywhere, lol. There's so many names that it usually takes me a long time to find the right name. I'm trying to name 4 bettas atm and it's kinda sad how hard this is for me. Most of our pet names have had something to do with mythology, religion or Disney and they're typically people names (yeah yeah I know quite the mix lol). I had a fish named Darwin, and my cat's Phoebe after the moon goddess. My mom was on an religion /angel kick and named a bunch of our rats after different biblical figures...so I had Michael, Noah, angel, Gabriel, Delilah, etc. My parent's cats are named after famous people or relatives heh...they have Isabella and Julia (named after great aunts), Leonardo (DaVinci), Francis Albert (Sinatra..we no longer have him but I crack up at the name still), Nickolai (vampire from forever knight tv series)

Three websites I've used in the past are:

http://www.lowchensaustralia.com/names/fantasylinks.htm
and
http://www.geocities.com/heartland/estates/6913/magicat.htm
*****I REALLY recommend this one

Hope that helps
