My First Frog. . . . .

fisherk2 Oct 11, 2003 11:11 PM

Tonight I adopted a White's Tree Frog from the Petco store I work at. I have helped take care of the amphibians in our store, but most of my experience is with various reptiles. I understand the basic housing needs for a White's (temp, humidity, food, etc) but I was wondering if a WTF would need a UVA/UVB source. I've read "yes" in some places and "no" in others. Since they are nocturnal and spend a lot of time hiding I would think that they don't need it, but I thought I'd come here and ask the experts Thanks!!!

Yeah, I know. I normally refer to Petco as the devil, but it gets my tuition paid, and it will be a good thing to add to my resume. I am going to school to be a zoo keeper, and people with any kind of paid animal experience have an edge up when it comes to getting a keeping position. And I feel better knowing that the herps in at least one Petco store are getting taken care of properly (or at least as well as we're allowed to care for them).

I dont think they need UV

You can use UV, and it prob. wouldn't hurt, but I wouldn't worry about it. I don't use UV for mine.

Treefrogs as a general rule do not benefit from UV or other sorts of lighting..the White's Treefrog is no exception since they are mostly nocturnal the really need no source of light the only benefit is for any live plants that might be in it's enclosure.
