Read the ingredients list on a bag of Nutriphase if you want your heart to stop. That's the brand Petsmart recommends. It's horrifying. A little corn is fine, but that stuff is almost all corn!! And really, what's the price difference? A couple of dollars per bag? People are so cheap!!
This recall has me on edge. Before I heard about it, my yorkie ate a few cans of the Nutro that was recalled. We've since switched him to Merrick and Nature's Variety for now. We're certainly not going to buy Nutro again, or any of the other brands made at Menu Foods.
What's scary is people who are too cheap to buy the good stuff in the first place probably won't care if their brand is recalled (except some of the higher-end stuff like the Nutro or other "good" brands). I told my parents while they had our dog Lucy (she belonged to them before we got her) that the brand of kibble they were feeding her has the highest levels of sodium pentobarbitol (the euthanasia drug) of any dog food on the market, and they refused to buy her better stuff because they said if it was bad for her she wouldn't be so healthy!! They never even took her to the vet to make sure she was!! The real issue was that the junk they were feeding her was the cheapest thing money could buy, and it doesn't matter if it's bad for her!! Sadly that is the way of some people. My parents are actually still under the impression that all pet food is required by law to be safe for human consumption in case a person eats it!! I have tried and tried to tell them that's not the truth, but they won't hear a word of it. It's really sad when people are that dense.
