O/T the bratty dog

PHRatz Mar 23, 2007 09:33 PM

I had to take him in to the vet yesterday & then today because he started throwing up this week.
Medication didn't work so he had to go in & have an endoscope shoved down his throat today.
The little IDIOT had eaten string & it blocked his guts. No telling where he got it because he'll eat ANYTHING. Sticks, bugs, weeds, grass, plastic, you name it I'm forever pulling something out of his mouth. I can't wait until he outgrows this stage!
Well fortunately we caught it early so the string was removed with the endoscope & the food that was stuck crushed up so it'll pass.. they did not have to cut him open.
WHEW!
He'll be on medication for about a week & no dog food. When we get back to dog food, I'm buying Dick Van Patten's natural diet made in the USA, that the vet sells. I think I'll donate that unopened bag of Eukanuba to a shelter because even though it's dry... I don't trust it anymore. :-x

That's good to know!
Diogee ate the prescription variety of it.. he never loved any dog food but he did well on it.
The vet gave me a big bag full of samples so at least we can try it before we buy.

I feel bad laughing at your post, but your wording is just too funny!!! Poor little dog, this is one thing I very much dislike about puppies... you know he'll just go do it again once you've got him all fixed up!!! I'm glad he's okay though.

Little stinker! Thank goodness he didn't need surgery!
I've always wanted to try the Dick VanPatten food- let me know how he does on it.

Don't feel bad for laughing.. his "grandma" laughed when I told her what he'd done & she said he's a little ummm blank. Can't say that word here but it deals with excrement. LOL!!

When Diogee (our last dog) was a baby he ate rocks the first time he went outside. Just small rocks on the ground that we can't get rid of.. that caused ulcers & he had to have medication for a long time after that. They ALL do things like that & I KNOW he'll do it again.
I had to pull tortoise poop out of his mouth just yesterday b/c he grabbed it before I had time to pooper scoop it.
That's why I said he's a little IDIOT!
hee hee

Yes Rachel I'll let you know how he feels about the DVP food.
Last couple of times I was at the vet's though, I saw several people come in to buy a bag of it. I wondered to myself do these people usually buy it or is the vet selling even more of it because of this recall? I don't know which it is.

The very first dog I had was a siberian husky who's specialty was nylons and sweat socks. He didn't stop chugging socks until he was about 2 but before that I really learned to love mineral oil. It is nerve-wracking, wondering what the little buggers are going to eat next. Good luck with it.

One time I was working for a vet who took some x-rays of a big yellow lab that had cancer.
It was sad because the dog died a couple of months later.
The vet was pointing out something to me that he found on the x-ray, he couldn't figure out what it was.
I knew what it was the second I saw it.
I had a necklace on, I took it off & held the clasp up against the x-ray- a perfect match.
He went into the room & asked the people if they're missing any jewelry.
DOGS are so bratty sometimes!

We're watching the brat more & hopefully we will have better luck in the future.

Jack ate a pencil once. Well, he's eaten a lot of things, but the pencil sticks out in my mind because I caught him doing it and he even ate the metal piece that holds the eraser. His vet (well my boss) thought it would be better for him to vomit it out than to risk trying to pass wood chunks (he's a 15 lb dog), so into the bathroom we went with our trusty bottle of peroxide.

Silly dog actually LIKES the taste of peroxide and happily lapped up about 12cc's before he started burping and looking sick. LoL I never found the metal piece.

Pencils yeesh!
Yesterday thankfully the dog didn't swallow this but apparently dh left a used toothpick on the end table because I found a chewed up shredded toothpick in the floor.

He doesn't THINK about what might go into that dog mouth.
