Slice a lemon and a bit of fresh ginger root, pour honey on top of it, and let that chill for about an hour in the fridge. When that's done, get a cup of hot water and put about 2 tablespoons of the honey mixture in the water. It does wonders for a sore throat.

It's the exceptionally high pollen this year. It's gonna be really BAD. Recently, even with pollen I am not allergic to, the levels are so high it's just clogging up my lungs and sinus. I expect to be more miserable than usual soon when the oaks start pollinating as I am allergic to that. I remember several years ago when we had a 3 year period of high pollen.. totally miserable. That was also how we found out the redbellied turtle had allergies lol. took a couple years to figure out it wasn't a reoccurring RI as it only happened in the spring when oaks were pollinating.

Oh and for the ginger root.. you need only a fresh piece about an inch long sliced thinly and put in a pot of boiling water (4 cups)... then strain the liquid to remove the root pieces. Add honey and lemon to taste. Some people prefer it hot, while others then prefer to cool it down in the fridge. My sister in law bought a huge hunk of ginger (3/4 lb worth) and thought she was gonna chop it all up.. she didn't realize.. only need a teeny piece lol. She didn't like the taste of the tea in the long run so I took the root and chopped it into sections and planted it. Got several ginger stalks growing on my desk at work lol. can't wait for the weather to warm up to transplant outside. some of them stalks are like 3 feet high ROFL.

I didn't know you could plant it! How do you do that? I love ginger. That honey tea is one of my favorite things even when I'm not sick, and I put a ton of ginger in there.

The temps have to be warm - they are tropical plants and not cold tolerant. And from what research I've done, to get good flavor for when you harvest the roots in the fall, they need to be planted outdoors. Those kept in pots year round tend to lose something. I started mine a few months early indoors and will transplant once the temps warm up. Take a fresh root that has green buds on them. Cut the root into 3-4 inch long sections trying to keep the buds centered. Plant them under the soil with the bud side facing up.... have about 1/4-1/2 inch soil on top. then keep the soil lightly damp - not wet as you don't want to rot the roots. May take a month or so before they finally decide to sprout. Once they do, they will shoot up a stalk pretty fast..the stalks are a bit fragile so you will need stakes to keep them from breaking. Out of the 12 or so pieces I planted I got like 7 to sprout. The stalks are not much to look at.. kinda looks like a thick piece of grass/reed. However, if you cut off a piece of leaf.. omg.. the smell is wonderful (doesn't last long though lol).
