off topic but good news

guenevier Apr 05, 2007 11:18 PM

Hi guys; well. I think I may have found a puppy folks. Half Newfoundland Half Golden Retriever. Crossing my fingers.

ALso I did order a few animals from that Ratkateers place, since nobody responded with either good or bad - decided to see for myself.

AND the rescue guinea pigs are ALL furred in again! Only problem now is my cat keeps climbing in with them and trying to wash them.

Back to topic: Lucy the great is a very brave rat-girl - she took her first shower this morning, no more baths for her! She got her oatmeal shampoo and stood under the rinse water like a champ. I was so amazed - she did not want to be there, but she did it for me. Now all I have to do it get her to leave my fried rice alone..................and my coffee, my raisin bran, my...................

You know how it is.

Hope everyone has a good Easter weekend.

How often do you give a Rat a bath? And what do you use to wash them with?

Hi Christina; Lucy doesn't take a bath very often at all, but I really don't like that brown buildup rats get on their tails, so once a month to six weeks I wash her with oatmeal puppy shampoo. Between the bathing and the food she gets, her coat really sparkles, and her tail doesn't get discolored buildup.

Let us know how it goes with getting the puppy!

I've never heard of the rat place you mentioned otherwise I would've answered lol.

Congrats on the shower going well. lol
I sometimes use some peroxide to get that crud off the tails. It works pretty well, just dab & wipe the tails with a cotton ball, it tends to come right off that way then I don't have to go through bath trauma..I think it's more tramatic for me than them!

Christina I bathe rats usually only when they need one...like if they get into something and really need a bath to get it off.

My Nilla dude has orange back (where the greasy orange stuff that male rats get builds up on his back) and so he gets a bath about once every 4-6 weeks. The vet gave me some shampoo to use, but I forget the name. Anyway, he does pretty good and he smells so great for weeks afterwards. I do it as fast as I can and we can be done completely in about 5 minutes. I do it in the bathroom sink with the water running. I don't think rats need baths at all if there isn't some reason to do so.
