here's your "awwww" for today

abbey_road3012 Apr 09, 2007 11:25 PM

Today was nail trimming day for the boys. They're always a little wiggly but not much trouble at all. I'm very careful to not cut the quick. I had Tchaikovsky out, and when I finished his nails he buried his little head in my neck and was crying!!! It broke my heart!! I posted to another rat group I'm on to ask if rats can cry, and someone responded that they indeed can. It was so sad, especially how he stuck his little head in my neck and just laid there. It sounded like he was sobbing! Poor little boy, he is so emotional! I wanted to cry too!!

Oh you're just mean! Making a poor little rat cry like that Shame on you.

I didn't know they actually cried. I believe it though- some of mine were pretty emotional.

My heart is just broken!! The first time I met Tchaikovsky, in the humane society when I was supposed to only get one rat, he was just desperate to come home with me (and of course I'd already promised his littermate Chopin that I would take him home. That did me in today though. He had his little head on my shoulder and he sounded like he was sobbing. Little emo rat.

That is about the sweetest thing I have ever heard. I try and try to tell my husband the neat things about rats and other animals in general, and he just doesn't get it. That is just so sweet.

That's because husbands are silly things that don't understand much other than food, sex, and video games!! My husband is PMSing today, sorry for that little outburst!!

I definitely do not recommend upsetting rats AT ALL after this, every time I see poor little Tchaikovsky my heart hurts. Keep them happy. Don't trim their nails, don't make them take bad-tasting medicine, and don't wake them up from a nap. I warn you. Everyone, go buy your rats something nice. Whatever you do, don't upset them, because you won't be able to live with yourself if they cry. No person with a soul could have been anything but devastated after hearing that.

How could anyone not love rats? Every day I love them more!! We're taking either Tchaikovsky or Fillmore on our trip later this month, it'll be 5 days. We're going to Texas for my husband's parents' 50th anniversary party in Beaumont, then we're going to meet my parents and grandparents in Dallas. My grandmother wants to meet one of the rats, so I'm taking one of them along. I think she will love him.

...to your question as to why anyone can NOT like rats.

Well more like answers...

Cause a power outage by gnawing wires

Bubonic plague(I understand they carried the fleas, which were the real killers)

MEDIA!!!

Putting a restaurant out of business(Taco Bell in NYC anyone?)

One killed one's beloved pet reptile or amphibian(by the way yes frogs eat mice and small rats when they are big enough)
(of course...if they truly loved their pet reptile or amphibian....they'd feed it prekilled or frozen wouldn't they?)

Viewed only as a food source for pet reptiles and amphibians(not a staple diet for certain herps!)

It's amazing how many people in my college never even thought of keeping a rat as a pet

abbey_road3012 Apr 20, 2007 02:41 PM

Bah! None of that has anything to do with my rats. Therefore everyone should love them.

Fine, I'm biased. And they own me.

Just the thought of what it must have sounded like to hear T~~sky cry is enough to break my heart. That poor baby. And snuggling into your neck to comfort himself is also a very sweet vision in my mind.

I WUV RATS

I'm late on this but...
Awwwwwwwwwwwwww poor baby!

I've never seen one cry but I have seen one pout just like the dog can pout. The pouting was over an injured nail & I found that just like the dog saying a lot of ohhh poor babies to the rat helped him a lot. He wanted pity so he got it & then he was happy.
