Tonight my buddy for watching Star Trek is my wonderful boy Tchaikovsky. I just can't help but love him the most! He's the one who cried when I clipped his nails. He wouldn't let me leave the humane society without him. He gives me all the kisses I want, even if I have to wake him up from a nap! I let him run around the kitchen and he stays with me the whole time. I couldn't ask for a more loyal, loving, or wonderful rat!! In 11 days we leave on our vacation, and I am going to take either Tchaikovsky or Fillmore with me. Tchaikovsky has my heart, he is by far the most affectionate, but Fillmore is more laid back. I am taking a rat with me so I can show my grandparents. They've never met a pet rat before. So I'm debating whether I should present pet rats as desperate for any and all attention, or chilled out and accepting of whatever happens. Tough call. Maybe I'll take them both. It's only going to be 5 days.

Tchaikovsky is on my shoulder right now, and every time I turn my head toward him he gives me kisses!! There's simply not a better pet out there. Not even dogs! Not that I don't adore my dogs, they're just a lot more trouble (and a lot noisier) than the rats. What's really silly is that my rats are better at coming when called than the dogs are! I guess having that little rattie nose in my ear is getting me all sentimental tonight. How sad for all the people in the world who haven't met a good rat!! I shall remedy that situation for at least two people in a couple of weeks though. My grandmother is very excited about meeting one of the rats. I know she's going to love whichever one I bring along!

I vote for taking them both, even if you have to do a little more cleaning while you're there. That way nobody will get lonely

Hi Kadee: I love that you're going to introduce your grandparents to your rat(s). I vote for taking them both (like you WANTED my vote or something). Reading you writing about a little rattie nose in your ear made me miss Harley -- he was the best kisser and nose sniffer. Have fun on your vacation!

It's hard not to have a favorite. I've loved each and every rat I've ever had, but I've definitely had my favorites over the years. As far as personality and spunk, no rat could ever quite measure up to Rosie. She sounds a lot like your Tchaikovsky- she was always giving kisses and wanting to be with me.

And she also listened better than either of my dogs! Hell, my dogs think their names are JackandMariadoyouwantacookie? That's the only way they'll come inside! Rosie would come when I called her name just because.

Well I guess I'm going to have to take them both then!! I don't think I could have chosen anyway. We got them a big carrier so they'll have plenty of room, and of course they'll be out of their cage a good bit of the time.

They will have lots of fun getting out of the house for a bit. They like going with me when I walk the dogs. New sights, new smells, more attention.
