O/T but I gotta show him off

PHRatz Jun 24, 2007 11:08 AM

We caught Brett the Maverick lovebird in Sept. 2004, so when this one came along we decided to stick with the Maverick theme & name the new guy Bart.
If you're too young to remember, there was a western TV show called Maverick.. the brothers were Bart & Brett.
I think someone made a movie about it in the 1990s?

Here's Bart, he's missing his crest. A wild bird pulled it out maybe?

I'm glad you were able to catch him! I'm sure he'll be happy now, safe and cozy in his new cage.
I miss my cockatiel. He had heart disease, so I had to have him euthanized since medications weren't helping. He wasn't quite 2 years old.

That's so sad Rachel!
We had a 'tiel for 18 years, she died in 2001 like about an hour before I had to be at work. That was a horrible day!
I didn't want to buy another one but when they show up at the house & need to be caught, what else can you do? LOL

Thanks Meg hee hee
Actually I've come to the conclusion that on the roof, on the ground, and all around our property there is a message invisible to the human eye but can be seen by all animals and it says
Need help? Stop here!
LOL
They always do so they must know this is the place to be.

He's going to the vet this morning.. just a check up & maybe a wing clip. He seems like a really happy bird though & I think because he's bold, he'll be good for the timid Brett. He'll teach her to stop being so timid, I hope.

Today is our 3 week anniversary since we caught him.
He had his vet trip, got a wing, nail, & beak clip.
Vet ran a couple of tests to check his health and he came through that with flying colors.
It took me only 2 days to get him to eat Harrison's food, so he's 100 percent on pellet diet now plus he will eat some organic broccoli & sweet potato just like Brett. By Christmas time we'll have them both on the maintanence diet & then I can start buying the 5lb bags which will be more economical. YAY
His crest is growing back, he knows several whistles that someone must've taught him. My DH is convinced that because he is so very noisy someone let him go on purpose. There is no indication that anyone has been looking for him but that's ok because he has a forever home from now on.
He hasn't seen the bRATS yet.. I'm going to have to put Dolly Raton on my shoulder & let them see each other soon.
Let him get the idea that my shoulder is a good place to sit.. ya know monkey see monkey do.. only it'll be cockatiel see rat do. LOL
