Rat nibbling...

bigears Jul 09, 2007 03:14 PM

My daughter and I can't figure out why her hairless rat keeps nibbling on my daughters fingers.
This is a VERY tame and loving rat, my daughter, who is 19 yrs. old, Stella her rat, is 4 months old, she does'nt bite only nibble.
My daughter has made sure to wash her hands before handling Stella and we've provided a flavored salt block thinking she might be lacking in salt. Still she keeps nibbling, any ideas?
Thanks,
Robin

One of my boys does that too. She's probably just giving your daughter a complimentary groom. She sounds like a sweetie.

Never thought of that, none of mine have ever nibbled before.
She is an extremely sweet girl.
Thanks for the idea.

Hi there!
I think that's it too, complimentary grooming.. I've had several rats that would do that and I've had some that will literally pull on my skin as they try to drag my hand into the hide box with them.
Your daughter is a very loved big rat!

My daughter is just CRAZY over this rat, she will lay in her bed and watch movies and Stella, the rat, will be laying under the covers with just her head poking out on the pillow sleeping.
I going to try and get a photo of them.
I'll tell my daughter what you said and I know it will give her a big smile.
