Up date on Stella

bigears Jul 31, 2007 10:05 AM

Hi everybody,
Its been pure HE double L here this past wkend.
Stella had to be taken to emergency vet, very heavy breathing, weezing, and clicking. She has pneumonia and an unidentified swelling in her stomach, her meds are Albon liquid and Tetracycline.
Sat. nite we thought she was not going to make it, her color was grey, her skin was cold, she looked like a walking skeleton. Her breathing was so labored, my heart broke every time I checked on her. I was wondering how to suggest to my daughter that maybe the best thing for Stella would be to put her out of her misery. I decided to wait til the Sun. morning before I broached the subject. I am so glad I didn't say anything, our dear wonderful Stella rebounded back!!!! She is a healthy pink, her eyes are bright, shes eating and drinking on her own.
If my daughter didn't love this rat so much and be there for Stella 24 hrs. non-stop I don't think she would have made it.
We are all so happy here, we still have our beloved friend!

Hi Sara,
You are sooo right about the bond between my daughter and Stella. I don't think Stella would have lived if it wasn't for the love and devotion of my daughter.
Thanks,
Robin

Robin I am so glad Stella rebounded.
Has the vet figured out yet what's wrong with her?
Is is something worse than parasites?
(not that parasites aren't a bad thing)

It turned out she had pneumonia, no parasites, but also some mass in her stomach.
If we want to find out about the mass it will take x-rays, which means the use of an anaesthetic and we are not comfortable with the chance of her not waking up. For right now we are going to play the wait and see game, besides shes still recovering from the pneumonia.
Toady she goes in for her check up at the vets.
