Question about meds

bigears Aug 15, 2007 11:39 AM

Some of you might recall the health problems we had with Stella, my daughters hairless. She was being given Albon and Tetracycline.
Two wks. ago we stopped giving her the meds, with the agreement of our vet, because of her erratic behavior, the head bobbing, walking like shes drunk, rolling on her back and she bites now, she never did any of this before.
She was checked for an ear infection and had none.
We thought that maybe she had become addicted to these drugs, but were told they usually make the animals sleepy, not crazy wired like this.
Has anybody else had problems with these drugs? Or any of these behaviors? Or any suggestions why she s acting so crazy?
Thanks in advance,
Robin

The only thing I can think of off the top of my head is that like humans some antibiotics just don't agree with some humans.. so it would make sense to me that some of them don't agree with rats or other animals either.
I have an online friend who adopted a box turtle because he was ill so the vet gave him Baytril then the turtle had a bad reaction to it & he acted kind of drunk. Her vet was very surprised because Baytril usually doesn't have that affect so it was permenently marked on his chart that he is never to be given Baytril again.
My guess is the albon may have caused more problems than the tetracycline & that's just based on me.
Albon is a sulfa drug, I myself am allergic to sulfa drugs and can't take any of them so I'm thinking maybe this really was just some sort of allergic reaction?
I hope your fur baby will be ok!
