Hope everyone is safe and sound with their ratties

I know what it feels like to be with parents when an adult yourself. I had to live with the folks time to time while I was an adult. I hated it. My mother always wanted me to live by her rules etc. I didn't even bother asking to get a pet while I was with them though. My parents hate animals...well, they don't hate them, they just don't think people should have pets.

I think this is mostly because most of our friends and relatives who have pets are complete morons with them. They dont' train their dogs well, always bring them to visit, etc. But I realy think my parents are just paranoid I will get a pet, decide I don't want it anymore and leave it to them to care for. Or I will go for a trip and expect them to watch over it. I never asked them to care for any of my pets when I was living alone..and the one time I had to ask them to watch over them, it was only temporary and they just had to feed them and I sold most of them before I left...(found a new job in another city which started a week after my interview..barely had time to give notice at my old job and with my land lady..had to keep that apartment going though, till she found new tenants, which I was ok with. I just left what pets I couldn't sell before I left, which was a couple guinea pigs and a bearded dragon. I sold the mice, rats, snake and crested gecko before I left to stay with a friend while I worked the new job and found my own place. They realy only had to take care of the guinea pigs, which found a home in a week and the bearded dragon, about a week later.

But....while I lived with my parents, I didn't even ask if could get a pet. Some they may be happy with..if I bought tropical fish again, or something that doesn't require much room, is clean and they know I won't leave behind...but in truth, I spent my time researching my future pets while i hunted for a new job, and a new place to stay.

Thus I know what it is like being stuck with parents..even if you love them to death...but you have to respect their desires not to have pets in the house. If you can convince them a bunny or whatever is ok, just make sure you are the one providing care etc..unless they volunteer. Even then, do all the care yourself, its just being respectful and nice. Besides, it can work in your favor...they may allow you to get another pet in the future as they see you are not going to take advantage of them etc by expecting them to be the primary care givers.
