In the past, I've used an unscented baby shampoo and also a hypoallergenic puppy shampoo. Whatever you use, just make sure to rinse really well since rats are such fastidious groomers.

rats don't need a bath...if kept in a clean environment they are very good at keeping themselves clean. Bathing rats cause natural skin and fur oils to be washed out which can cause skin issues, especially if bathed often. Personally I don't recommend bathing unless treating a skin or parasite problem.
the only time a rat would need a bath is if they get into something truly smelly or potentially harmful if they lick it off as normal.

I tend to agree with this. I don't like bathing them but I have had the problem of them getting really dirty & they did need to be bathed.
I went with hypoallergenic dog shampoo. I like shampoos like that better than human shampoos because it seems to me that dog shampoo rinses out faster than human ones do.
With a rat bath speed is your friend! The faster it can get done the better.
