Swollen Area Under Eye

codynolen Oct 23, 2007 02:23 PM

Ok..this is a long story but I thought the more detailed the better.

Aprox 4 days ago Inoticed my eldest rat in a 4 rat colony had a wound above his left eye, it was slightly scabbed. I pur a tiny bit of anti bactiial oincment on it and accdently got some in his eye.

The next day I noticed a slight swell un that eye. I was very very very worried. I panics and used a dropper to flush the eye to see if it would help.

Next day it was bigger.. made me thing cyst, tumor, and all kinds of bad things.. and of course the stormy weather screwed my satilite internet all the way up for three dasys. I managed to use dial up to reasearch types of swells... and I dunno what it is unless me accdently getting the oincment in his eye caused it.

Today it is either slighntly smaller or the same size.

I did take a picture...but aparently My camra's usb connecter is messed up.. Just imaged a swollen ere under the eye smaller than the size of a penny, but more longated in shape.

It's hard to say without seeing it. Update after she sees the vet, ok?

My rat buddy is fine now, he's jsut rcovering.

It was aparently a cysts or something. I was checking him out and it just started draining infection / pus. It went WAY down in size and is healing. I'll reunite him with his colony when he heals up enough to take on his anoying cage mate. (Fred is an A hole..lol)

sounds like it was an abscess so keep your eye on it because sometimes those can cause bacterial infection to spread on the inside & they need to take antibiotics to clear it up.
Poor baby I hope he feels better soon.

I was going to say, almost certainly an abcess. Many animals will have puss collect under the skin at the site of an injury. If it is going down, no problem. If they keep swelling it may need to be lanced.
