My first rehab patient

snakeguy88 Sep 13, 2003 04:02 PM

I am just starting my training but since I already deal with a lot of herps, I got this poor guy as my first. An old adult male RES hit by a car about 2 months ago. After baytril and betadine, taping and feeding, along with constant water changes, this small crack is all that is left. He was released into a protected area yesterday afternoon. Andy

He looks to be doing well! Did you wire and epoxy the shell as well, or as the crack not deep? I am still learning about turtle/tortiose rehab, but know that sometimes that is needed, just not sure when! Thanks for helping him out, we can't save them all, but even saving one makes a difference!

Only tape. We didn't use that method, though I have heard it works. We are a nonprofit shelter so we use mainly just what we can. The shell was cracked pretty bad, but not to the degree that it required maintenence such as that. Andy
