Injured toad

froggy235 Sep 25, 2003 12:37 PM

Hi,
Two days ago I was attempting to sample the amphibian population of a nearby forest when I found a toad that looked like it had its leg chewed off by a dog or something. I decided that the toad wouldn't survive if I put it back into the forest, so I have taken it in. Right now it is living in a ten gallon aquarium in damp peat moss. I was wondering if anyone out there has ever had a wild toad as a pet or has had experience with taking care of injured amphibians. Thankyou!

Is it a new injury? If it is, just apply neosporin and keep the toad in a warm, dark place with papetowels as the substrate a shallow water bowl. Give it some crickets, mealies, ect. If it is an old wound, just let it go. I find 3-legged toads all the time and they are fine on their own. Andy
