Last Years Leftovers...

PHJoker Mar 20, 2004 03:48 PM

My mentor got in 2 flying squirrels this week. Some "good citizen" saved them (last years babies), and then proceded to "help" them and raise them. She had started with 4, this past week 2 died, at that point, it occurred that perhaps she was in over her head. She brought them in, and they were only able to "creep", reach out their with their front feet, and pull the rest of them behind them. I have no idea why she thought this was normal behavior, but apparently it was consistent with all 4.

X-rays confirmed very poor bone formation, in effect, they barely have any. Was this mother nature? NO. Their "rescuer" fed them seeds and nuts only, they had not developed properly at all. Is there hope? Perhaps....mentor is feeding them calcium supplements in addition to a good healthy diet. If anyone is considering fostering wildlife, or "rescuing that cute baby" to make it into a pet, PLEASE PLEASE only do so with experienced help, or FIND appropriate help. Raising these gentle souls on your own, without proper care or knowledge is just wrong. These poor things may well die, because someone thought she knew what she was doing, and thought it was the right thing. It wasn't. Get proper help, or get trained or get assistance. PLEASE!

The number of these sorts of "rescues" really shocks me. We have people coming in that had had mocking birds for weeks and had been feeding them raw eggs and milk. Our educational duck was fed bread and water as a duckling and has "angel wings" where her wings flip out due to the MBD she had while younger. Our opossum was also raised by humans and can never be released due to traumas that were not correctly treated.

I have two siblings that were being fed Purina Dog Chow. Now that stuff is super for canines... but rodents? hahaha There is this overwhelming want to cram food down their throats, does it matter that it is Horse Biscuits? Nah. hahaha My goodness. Well we've even heard stories of a woman breast feeding a group of squirrels. Now that is nuts. LOL nuts.

Hey Joker I am working with Homeopathy and am having some awesome success with it. These guys were in the BEGINNING stages of pnuemonia due to inhaling some rain water I gave them a remedy and BAM!!! No more sneezing or rattling of the lungs. The group that taught the seminar I attended are having HUGE success with helping birds and squirrels through the fever stage of West Nile Virus and it is preventing the CNS damage. The squirrels I have right now were emmaciated and not gainning. I have put them on these essential cell salts called "BioPlasma" and they are gaining like crazy now. WOOHOOO FAT SQUIRRELS!

I am going to look into the MBD and see if there is any remedy via Homeopathic medicine that helps animals rebuild strong bones. That would be amazing! Talk to you all soon.

There are remedies in Homeopathy that help with Metabolic Bone Disease. Check with a local Homeopathic Vet. I know at times Eastern medicines seem shockingly different but we are having GREAT success with wildlife in Sacramento as well as a group in Colorado. For everything from shock to poisoning to broken legs. This stuff is great. For those of you who might squint an eye at a form of Alternative medicine just look at acupuncture. That stuff is helping animals walk again even after spinal injuries!! Check it out there is more information linked below...
