Update on my water snake:

NomadOfTheHills Oct 21, 2004 07:30 PM

If any of you remember, I have a young water snake, with an injured back. Well, he is doing much better, and today for the first time since his spring peepers and redback salamnders while I was camping wiht him in Vermont, he ate!!!

He finally took 3 small minnows. The only thing that has changed was the relpacement of paper towels with dirt from my garden (all natural no chemicals). Also, he paralysis is much lessoned, and he has much more mobility!

hey what you have done for that little snake is great. A lot of people would have just let it die being that it is such a common snake in the northeast. I was wondering what the future of that little guy is going to be. I am a wildlife keeper at an institution up in Mass. We house and care for nonreleaseable native wildlife. There may be a very good permanent home up here in the museum if you wish to ever part with him. write a post back or email me if your interested in placement. I can give you some more info at that time

Hello again!

I remember you and your snake. So glad to hear of your success. These really are a fascinating and beautiful species (My personal favorite NA species). Eating is certainly a good sign! Just make sure that he is excreting, too.

Admirable job!
