DIY Waterfall

matt1983 Feb 29, 2004 12:05 AM

Hello, I'm new to the board but not to the aquarium hobby. I'm trying to create a miniature Biotope aquarium (where the the plants and animals kept provide the balance and filtration) What I'm trying to do is create a water fall and I can't really figure out the easiest, most effective low cost DIY waterfall. I want something that works well for a ten gallon tank so that when I put it in a 20 it barely works. I don't want any excess mechanical filtration just the bare minimum for low water movement as to not rid the tank of Co2. Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

Well... a lot of power heads are designed with a round output side. Many of them are about the right size to attach rubber hosing onto.

Fluval's been putting out a number of small inside filters that sell pretty cheap. They too have the round outlets.

Tubing is available at most hardware stores in a number of sizes. Since they don't sell aquarium filters, you can walk right in with the filter you pick, and start sticking hoses onto it till you get a good snug fit.

I wouldn't recommend adding a metal hose clamp though...
